Your catalogue is the product record Wherehouse syncs out to marketplaces and back to your ERP or online store. Most of that data arrives automatically. Sometimes you still need to fix a title, correct a sale price, add an image, or fill in a missing barcode without waiting for the next import.
In this guide, we'll walk through how to open a product, edit it on the dashboard, check the change log, and when to use a bulk CSV instead.
Understanding the basics 🧐
What is a catalogue product?
A catalogue product is a single sellable SKU (stock keeping unit) in Wherehouse. The SKU is the unique code Wherehouse uses to match that item across your store, ERP, and marketplaces. The product holds the fields you sell on: title, description, prices, stock on hand, images, brand, category, barcode, dimensions, and any custom attributes your setup uses.
What a manual edit changes
Saving the product updates the record in Wherehouse. Connected platforms pick up those values on the next scheduled sync, not the instant you click Save.
If a field still comes in from your system of record via an integration (your ERP or online store), the next product import can overwrite a manual edit. Use a manual edit for a one-off correction, or when Wherehouse is the place you maintain that field. For a lasting price or stock exception on one marketplace only, use Sync Overrides instead.
Manual edit, Sync Override, or SKU remap?
- Manual product edit changes the catalogue record itself (title, description, images, core prices, specs).
- Sync Override pins a price, stock, or sync flag on one marketplace without changing the catalogue product. That exception always wins on that channel.
- Code (SKU) remap links a marketplace SKU that does not match your system of record, so Wherehouse treats them as the same product.
How to edit a product ✏️
- Open your catalogue
On the dashboard, open Catalogues from the sidebar (the box icon) and select the catalogue you want, or click the Products button on that catalogue from home. You'll land on the Products tab with a search bar and a grid of product cards.

- Find the SKU
Search by code, title, or barcode, or use Filter if you need a brand, category, or custom attribute. Hover a card to show the pencil in the top right. That pencil jumps straight to the edit page. Clicking the card itself opens the product details modal first, which is useful when you want to review prices and linked platforms before you change anything.
- Open Edit product
From the product details modal, click Edit product (or the teal pencil). The modal shows the SKU, barcode, stock, linked platforms, prices, and a short description. Use this view to confirm you have the right item before you edit.

- Update stock and prices
The edit page opens on stock on hand, retail price, sale price, wholesale price, and cost price. Change only what you mean to change. Wherehouse flags values that look like capture errors, for example a sale price below R50 or a discount that wipes out the retail price. Those warnings do not block you. They exist so a typo does not go live.

A sale price on the catalogue is the product's sale price in Wherehouse. It is not a Sync Override. If you only want a different selling price on Takealot or Amazon, set a sell-price override on that platform instead.
- Edit details and specs
Scroll to Details and Specs to update the product title, excerpt, rich description, and package contents, plus length, width, height, weight, brand, colour, material, size, model number, category, barcodes, and tags. Additional attributes from your own systems (warehouse location, marketplace-specific fields, and similar) sit at the bottom when they are set as editable.

If a barcode is not a valid EAN or UPC, Wherehouse warns you on the form. Marketplaces often reject listings with a bad barcode, so fix it here before you send the product out.
- Save your changes
Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page. Discard leaves the product as it was. Save Changes stays disabled until something on the form has actually changed.
Check what changed 📊
Every saved edit is written to the product change log. Open Change Log from the top of the edit page to see who changed a field, when, and the before and after values. Manual dashboard edits show as Manual, with the user who saved them. Connector-driven updates from your ERP or store show as the connected system instead.

Use the change log when a price or title looks wrong and you need to know whether a person edited it or an import wrote it back.
Add or replace images 🖼️
On the edit page, the Images block has a main image plus a gallery. Edit or Remove the main image, or click Add on the gallery to attach another photo.
Wherehouse does not host image files. You paste a public image URL. That URL has to stay online and publicly reachable. If the host takes it down, the image disappears from Wherehouse and from any marketplace that is still using it.

Use a URL you control (your store, a CDN, or a file host that will not expire). Do not paste a temporary link from a chat tool or an expired download.
Edit many products at once 📦
Editing one SKU is fine. Editing a range is faster with a CSV. From the Products tab, use Export Products to download the current catalogue, edit the file, then Import to write the changes back. The Import button accepts product data, Sync Overrides, or code remaps. Use a .CSV file, not .XLSX.

Keep the SKU column exactly as it was exported. SKUs are case-sensitive. Changing a SKU on the sheet will miss the product or create a mismatch.
What happens after you save?
- The catalogue product updates immediately in Wherehouse.
- The change log records the field, the user, and the before and after values.
- Connected marketplaces and your ERP or store receive the new values on the next scheduled sync, not instantly.
- A later product import from your system of record can overwrite fields that source still owns.
Manual edits are the right tool for a single SKU correction. For a marketplace-only price or stock exception, use Sync Overrides. For a SKU that does not match across systems, use a code remap.
